News & Updates:
01-13-07: OK, so far this year, Harpy has two great shows under our belt. At least in our minds. The show on January 5th at Port Jazz was simply a wonderful New Year's celebration for us. Port Jazz is always a great place to play. Saw a lot of old friends there too. Please guys and gals - keep coming.
That's not all eaither...just getting off the high of playing Live Live Trax in Bellmore last night. What a gas! New and old friends joined in in the festivities. We always love to see our good friends from Wonderous Stories and Apostle out there. They keep us on our toes! No doubt the overall crowd reaction and exuberance got us through a few "touch and go" situations, but I think we can all agree, it was a great night of prog rock for all. Even an old friend and true Progressive Rock celebrity (I hate using that word but it's a fact) came down to catch the show. Hey it's not every night that Ian McDonald of King Crimson and Foriegner fame comes down to a Harpy show. I'm praying we can "twist his arm" and get him to join us on stage for classic King Crimson tune in the near future. It would be a dream come true. Tonight: DJ Rider's in Oceanside. Wonder who else might show up! Love John
10-15-06: I just need to say Thanks to all our family and friends who came down and supported the band at Port Jazz in Port Jefferson last night. Also a great thanks to Tom the soundman and the entire crew at Port Jazz who made the night such a wonderful experience. As every show demonstrates, we're always adding new things to please and surprise our audience. What also pleases us to the extreme is witnessing such a heartfelt appreciation for this kind of music. The music trades and record labels might try to portray that progressive rock is dead but the crowds we come in contact with say otherwise. We're all looking forward to the Live Trax concert coming up on Nov 4...hope to see you all there! Love John
10-01-06: Oh wow! The Molly Bloom II show was just a tremendous event for all of us. We want to thank all the prog-heads who came down. To Bobby, John and Mike from Apostle, Lance and Les of Rocket Man, Kenny from Wonderous Stories, and the two Rob's of Afterlife...even Ed the progressive bass player from Babylon...thanks for the support. And to everyone - we love and cherish you all. Keep coming back. Tell two friends, and they'll tell two friends...etc., etc. We promise you our next show on October 14th at Port Jazz is going to be even better. See you all there. (Love John)
07-16-06: Port Jazz date booked and confirmed for Thursday Aug 17, 2006 at 8:00 PM
10-09-05: Added a new song by John (Blanco) to the site...Back In These Arms Again. Also put up the radio spot for Babylon's 13th Annual Fall Merchants Festival on the Home page.
9-22-05: Just confirmed HARPY's return gig at the Babylon Street Merchants Fair in Babylon, New York. Should be a fun day!
9-8-05: Harpy's new drummer has landed. His name is Mike Bellusci. He's played with many, Beatlemania, Strawberry Fields to name a few. We rehearse, we eat, we sleep and then we rehearse some more. Should be ready soon.
8-29-05: "Catatonia", a new song from Harpy guitarist Michael Barberich, is released online.
8-17-05: Final auditions are occuring. A new Harpy member is only a "harp"-beat away.
8-8-05: We're awfully close to making a decision with last-minute auditions down to the wire. If all goes as planned we should have our new drummer in place within the next 2 weeks.
7-11-05: Last Thursday we auditioned two great seasoned players: Brad Sporkin and Mike Graci. Both drum viruosos! Add to that Steve Lobmeier and Frank Mediate from the week before and you'd think a decision would be simple. Hardly the case. Each great in his own way. Subtle nuances, flourishes, talents, etc. We're just taking our time to make the best decision. And the contest continues...
6-27-05: Still looking...still looking.
6-17-05: Had to cancel our July 2nd show at Live Trax. We were all excited about playing the show but the absence of a drummer, ongoing auditions, etc. just makes it impossible. Fear not, the band continues in it's quest.
5-23-05: It is with great sadness that we report: Vinny Tatanelli, Harpy's wonderful drummer, has left the band. The "V-Man" was a great addition to our ensemble but has chosen to leave us to pursue other interests. All of us in the band wish Vinny the best of luck in all his endeavors. He will be sorely missed. Fortunately Vinny has agreed to continue performing dates with the band while auditions take place and a new drummer is worked in. The band moves on!
5-2-05: HARPY continues rehearsals. Working on new material by Yes and Genesis.
4-22-05: Harpy-bite from John: It’s early morning on April 22nd and I still can’t fall asleep because the debut show of Harpy, which just ended a few hours ago, is still re-playing itself over and over in my head. I am still reeling. All of us in the band had the most magical evening we could have ever had wished for. Thanks to all of you. To paraphrase the words of the Great John Lennon: “A splendid time was guaranteed for all” – at least for this singer and his band! To see and mingle with so many of our old friends - and family coming in from all over the globe to share this special night with us…no words can express the feelings I have for all of you. One thing I’m sure of is the music lives on. And friendships built over the years cannot be broken by distance or time. Love and peace to all…see you at our next show!
